At UST we believe that Universal Sales Truths are true regardless of the product or service you represent. In addition, they stand the test of time. In other words, whether  you are selling high tech solutions to a CIO, or selling cattle to a rancher in 1850, if you adhere to these truths, you can’t help but be successful. The reason is simple. They are derived from the book of Proverbs. And therefore written by one of the wisest men to walk the face of the earth. The 25 Proverbs outlined below result in 5 Universal Sales Truths that are fundamental to long term sales success. We will provide future posts that will go into each truth  in great detail. The purpose of this post is to provide a basic overview to stimulate the thought process.

Universal Sales Truths

1)    Surround yourself with successful people of integrity

Proverbs 13:20

Become wise by walking with the wise;
hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces.

Proverbs 15:22

Refuse good advice and watch your plans fail;
take good counsel and watch them succeed.

Proverbs 16:16

Get wisdom—it’s worth more than money;
choose insight over income every time.

Proverbs 19:9

The person who tells lies gets caught;
the person who spreads rumors is ruined.

Proverbs 28:26

If you think you know it all, you’re a fool for sure;
real survivors learn wisdom from others.

2)    Use your words carefully/ THINK before responding!

Proverbs 12:16

Fools have short fuses and explode all too quickly;
the prudent quietly shrug off insults.

Proverbs 12:18

Rash language cuts and maims,
but there is healing in the words of the wise.

Proverbs 13:3

Careful words make for a careful life;
careless talk may ruin everything.

Proverbs 14:29

Slowness to anger makes for deep understanding;
a quick-tempered person stockpiles stupidity.

Proverbs 18:21

Words kill, words give life;
they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.

3)    Do more listening than talking

Proverbs 18:13

Answering before listening
is both stupid and rude.

4)    Work your land

Proverbs 20:4

A farmer too lazy to plant in the spring
has nothing to harvest in the fall.

Proverbs 28: 19-20

Work your garden—you’ll end up with plenty of food;
play and party—you’ll end up with an empty plate.

Committed and persistent work pays off;
get-rich-quick schemes are rip offs.

5)    Be humble-not prideful

Proverbs 11:2

The stuck-up fall flat on their faces,
but down-to-earth people stand firm

Proverbs 23:5

Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone

And they will surely sprout wings

And fly off to the sky like an eagle
